Destiny’s Work: Why This Eclipse Is More Than a Full Moon

We have an upcoming full moon (Sept 7–8) coming wrapped in a total lunar eclipse, and I gotta make sure my tribe is prepared. So lets get to the meat and potatoes of it all.

While every full moon brings light, this one doesn’t just illuminate, it transforms.

Why? Because eclipses activate the Nodes of Fate, the North Node and the South Node.

These are not just points in the sky. They are the spiritual compass of our lives:

  • The South Node carries the past—ancestral cycles, karmic patterns, the weight we’ve been holding for lifetimes.

  • The North Node points to our future—the stretch of who we are becoming, the path our spirit came to embody.

And while the astrology world is going to be buzzing, here’s the truth:
This is not a time to manifest.

Full moons are already about illumination and release. Add in an eclipse, and Spirit is saying loud and clear: “Let it go.”Eclipses are shadow medicine. They pull the covers back on what we’ve been avoiding, forcing us to see what’s ready to be closed, cleared, and cleansed.

But here’s the part most don’t talk about, release is not just about letting go of things that hurt you. Sometimes Spirit asks you to release parts of yourself you’ve outgrown. An old version of you that can’t walk with you into the next chapter.

Think of it like shedding. The snake doesn’t apologize for leaving its old skin behind. The butterfly doesn’t cling to its cocoon. They honor the cycle, trust the timing, and step fully into the next stage.

That’s the energy here.

When the Moon is eclipsed, those nodes awaken. The past and the future speak at once. Spirit asks us: What are you still carrying? And what must you lay down to move forward?

This is why lunar eclipses feel heavier than a typical full moon. It’s not just emotions rising… It’s lifetimes, cycles, and stories asking to be released. It’s ancestral medicine calling us to clear space.

Rituals for Release

This is not a time for manifestation. Eclipses are about surrender, cleansing, and trust. Here are some practices to work with:

  • Sacred Cleansing: Sweep your floors from back to front, cleanse your altar, refresh your linens. Let your physical clearing mirror your spiritual one.

  • Ancestral Release Letter: Write down not only what you’re ready to release, but who you no longer need to be. Offer those words to fire or water. Call on your ancestors to help you carry it.

  • Pause & Cover: Some traditions keep altars covered during eclipses. Whether you choose to cover or simply keep quiet, let this be a pause where your spirits rest as the shadow passes.

  • Body Reset: Take a cool bath with salt, basil, or rosemary. Air dry, and whisper over yourself: “I am renewed. I am realigned.”

  • Reflective Journal Prompt: What part of me am I scared to release, even though I know it’s time?

Looking Ahead

Two weeks later, on Sept 21, a solar eclipse arrives with a different kind of reset. I promise to give you the 411 on that when time comes, but for now this lunar eclipse is asking us to cleanse deeply and trust the hands of destiny.

Release. Reset. Realign. (& in that order!)

Herbs for Lunar Eclipse Release

These are best for cleansing, cooling, and cutting cords:

  • Basil – clears negativity, restores clarity, opens the path for renewal.

  • Rosemary – deep ancestral cleanser, strengthens boundaries, “resets” the aura.

  • Mugwort – moon herb; enhances dreamwork, intuition, and release of psychic baggage.

  • Lavender – calms emotions, brings peace to endings, softens the release process.

  • Bay Leaf – burn for symbolic release, or write what you’re letting go and set aflame.

✨ Tip: Steep in water overnight for a cool rinse, or sprinkle in a floor wash for home cleansing.

Crystals for Lunar Eclipse

Focus on grounding + clarity, since eclipse energy can be destabilizing:

  • Black Tourmaline – ultimate protection, clears heavy ancestral energies.

  • Obsidian – shadow mirror; helps you see hidden truths you’ve avoided.

  • Smoky Quartz – transforms stagnant energy, grounds anxious emotions.

  • Moonstone (Black or Rainbow) – aligns with lunar cycles, supports release + intuition.

  • Amethyst – clarity + spiritual connection, eases the emotional weight of endings.

✨ Tip: Place crystals around your bath, on your altar (if uncovered), or carry one in your pocket for grounding during the eclipse window.

How to work with them together

  • Ritual Bath: Lavender + rosemary + a piece of amethyst nearby.

  • Floor Wash: Basil + bay leaf tea, wash front door or sweep outward.

  • Meditation: Hold black tourmaline while journaling; place moonstone on your third eye.

As we step into this eclipse energy, my prayer is that you release with ease. May the weight that is not yours dissolve. May the cycles you’ve carried for too long finally find rest. And may you walk forward light, aligned, and in rhythm with your destiny.
